Years of poor technique have had some unfortunate ramifications upon the well-being of my body. So, today I started physiotherapy.
I’ve also started working on Jamie Andreas‘s The Principles of Correct Practice for Guitar. If you’ve never heard of Jamie Andreas, she is a brilliant classical guitarist and adamant proponent of tension-free guitar playing.
I understand Jamie also gives personalized lessons via Skype. She will review your performance of a number of exercises in order to identify your weaknesses, and then provide recommendations. Her recommendations also include several practice exercises designed to correct your errors. One session is often all you need.
There are those that consider her fees to be so high as to be unjustifiable. Although comparing $135 per hour for her attention against physiotherapy at $70 per half hour, twice a week for a month, plus no guitar playing for the duration, well then the economic argument tips in her favour.
In the meantime, check out Jamie killing it on some Bach:
