[Video] A Day To Remember – Original Jazz Arrangement

Oh WordPress.com, how I’ve missed you. And oh how patiently you’ve waited for me to return to you, with your spam folder filled with nonsense comments, and all-new menus.

To business!

I have been having a bad day. Not as bad as Steve Jobs, perhaps, but decidedly far too much time spent in a doctor’s office, thank you very much.

Upon my return home this evening, I decided to muck around with some jazz chord voicings that I’ve been lifting from All Jazz Blues, and some lead licks that I copped from a PowerTab of Django‘s Sweet Georgia Brown, which I downloaded last night prior to falling asleep on the couch with my guitar on my chest.

Django Reinhardt

This dude, is THE dude

Apparently if you learn something new immediately before you go to bed, it gets burned into your permanent pathways better than memories absorbed during the day. I tend to agree. Just don’t use it for studying; it really only works for melodies.

At any rate, mucking about with some 13th chords courtesy All Jazz Blues, and some lead lines heavily based on ninths courtesy Sweet Georgia Brown, this little arrangement took all of 10 – 12 minutes to hammer out. It honestly took a billion times longer to tab it out and film the video.

As for the title, it sounded like it needed an A Walk To Remember title, without all the references to Christian virgins dying of cancer, much like Steve Jobs, minus the Christian. And hopefully virgin. A Day To Remember was a pretty close replacement, and a decent in-joke for most of the people on my Facebook.

Oh, and here’s the tab, and in PowerTab and PDF:
